Greetings,
I am using Symantec Client Security 3.1 with Antivirus(SAV) 10.2. (not Norton Antivirus)
I am getting this error when trying to send email messages with attachments.

!Symantec Email proxy:
Your email message to [email address of recipient] with the subject [email subject] was unable to be sent because the connection to you mail server was interupted. Please open your email client (Outlook 2000) and re-send the message from the sent messages folder. 1003,9

On the server in System Console under client auto-protect options there is no check to enable any kind of email scan. I cannot find any other places that allow me to configure email scanning. On the client computer there are no options in Antivirus to disable email scanning as well. ( Yes I did have all admin rights)
Most of the related posts do not provide an answer to this problem.

How can I get Symantec Antivirus to stop scanning email messages? We have Forefront security to do this.

Thank you for your time!

Junglecom,

I've been getting the same error.  It started happening right after a switch to a new service provider.  If I set the user's up with static internal IP's, then map a public IP to that on our firewall, the emails go out fine.  Problem is that we don't have enough public IP's to do this for everyone.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

Did either of you get any further with this error?  The identical error recently started occurring on one of the PC's on our LAN when trying to send large email attachments and now it is happening on approximately 10 PC's.  We have spent hours trying to determine the cause but to no avail.

My next option is to delete NAV altogether and just run it with a freeware scan (eg AVG) to see if that works.  Very crude but we are at our wits end as it it seriously hampering our productivity.

Thanks a bunch

Netgear DG834 IM Ports - Not sure if this helps?

I have been having this issue whereby I can't sent emails with attachments - I keep getting this annoying Symantec Proxy popup.

I have tried everything except looking at the router - I have a netgear 834v3 so decided that I'd do some searching on the netgear sites as well as google and found this on one of the forums.

The solution turned out to be: You need to set the option "Open IM Ports(IM ports are open by default)" in the DG834G Firewall Rules. (We had closed IM ports because we don't use IM). It now works.

I tried this and it seems to have worked - sent an email from hotmail with a 6mb video file attachment which they received in their outlook2003 which is normal - I then forwarded the email back to my hotmail account successfully.

Fingers crossed this is the workaround for now - will try a firmware upgrade and close those IM Ports and test at a later stage.
