  • 1.  Cannot stop Symantec Endpoint from installing

I had Symantec Endpoint Protection small Business installed on my workstation.  For some reason the Liveupdate was not working so it told me to reinstall.  I have been trying to reinstall the program for the past 4 hours and it keeps rolling back my install.  I thought I could remove the program and try the whole install again, but my problem is that it will not let me "cancel" the installation.  It keeps trying over and over again.  I even have restarted my computer and as soon as it boots up the install program is on my screen trying.  Hitting cancel works for 1 second and then it starts all over again.  Anyone know how to stop this program from running????

    Thanks!

What version of SEP 12 are you running? What is the OS of this system?

    Can you post the SPC_INST.log?

From start - run - %temp%\SPC_INST.log, search for Return Value 3 and post the 10 lines above the return value 3.

Moving this to the Endpoint Protection Small Business forum.

Stop windows installer service rather disable it

kill msiexe process from task manager

remove sep from the machine ,clear all folders for symantec endpoint

    and then re install Sep

    Solution

Set the Windows Installer service startup type to disabled:

      1. Click Start Run
      2. Type: services.msc
      3. Click OK
      4. Right-click Windows Installer and click Properties
      5. In the Startup type drop-down box choose Disabled
      6. Click OK
    1. Log out and back in to the current profile or restart the machine
      • The install loop should stop now
    2. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove Symantec Endpoint Protection from the machine
    3. Delete any folders left behind
    4. Restart the machine
    5. Install Symantec Endpoint Protection
