Created: 04 Jan 2013 | 12 comments

Hi all

I dont have much experience with SMP but the first 2 days i was able to access the web console from my laptop until today. All i keep getting is internet explorer cannot display page. I can access just fine from internet explorer on the server itself but not from outside the server. Any help is greatly appreciated

thank you

Sounds like a basic network problem, don't think of it as an SMP problem, just troubleshoot as you would any other internal website.

First think I'd check is firewall on the server.

All firewalls have beend disabled, What is happening now is that it works on and off. I might be able to get in now but not in three hours.

Can you get in from the web browser on an adjacent server? Can you get in to an internal website on an adjacent server?

"yes" to which?

If you can get in tot he Altiris console from an adjacent server but not any remote workstation it sounds like a name lookup problem or other network problem or maybe a Group Policy change. Try putting the IP address of the Altiris server in the browser instead of the name.

When you can't get to it remotely, can you access it locally from the server (http://localhost/altiris)?  I agree with Andy, need to determine if Altiris itself is becoming available or simply a particular component of the network.

From an adjacent workstation i seem to be having problems getting onto the console at random times. I am trying to deal with it for now by just logging in remotely to the server and getting into the web console from there but it seems like a wierd issue that i want to have to work on. Thanks for all your help.

I still cant figure it out. Everything looks ok but it still doesnt work at random times. I can always access it from the smp server itself but not always from outside the server.

If it's always available locally, but not remotely, it's going to be a network issue.  I'd involve your network team.  They may ask you to do some legwork with utilities like Wireshark.

But when you have problems getting to it from outside you can still get to it from an adjacent server?

I can only always get in from the server that smp is installed on but otherwise i always have on and off problems.

You need to analyse those off and on problems to see if you can get in from adjacent servers when you can't get in from further outside. If that's the case you have to look at the network.
