  • 1.  Can't add scanner in SMS for SMTP 5.0.1 patch 187

    We have 2 SMS for SMTP servers and want to push configuration changes from one to another which is new.  Both server are in the same domain and in the same network segment.  We we try to add a scanner under Host Management (Settings tab, Hosts selected in the left pane) it takes us to the Add Scanner Wizard where we enter the name and either the IP address or the hostname of the new server and we get the following message.

     

    "Cannot find an Agent that is running. Please check the specified host, and that the Agent will allow connections from this IP address."

     

    We tried this on both servers trying to add the opposite and received the same error.

     

    We're running on Windows Server 2003 Standard SP1 (the last we were told is that SMS for SMTP is not supported on SP2) and there is no local firewall running on either server.

     

    Anyone encounter this problem?  Are we doing something wrong?

    Chris,

         I have seen this error when the SMTP is installed on an exchange/small business server.  Is this the case?  Also if you restart the agent service on the scanner does that help?

     

    You may want to try the following document.  I know it's for brightmail but it should help.
