Cant connect to pc anywhere 12.1
Hi
i have been trying to connect to a pc anywhere host.
(its a host we have for allowing external customers access to one of pcs, it was set up over a year ago, and was working till quite lately)
i have been dialing in as normal, but after it gets to the stage where it is verifying the user name and password, i get the following error.
Error:721 The remote computer is not responding
Dialing seems ok, and when looking at the host, the status chages from "waiting for connections" to (i think) "connection in progress"
so it seems to be going so far on to the host, i think it may be failing at he username and password part of the process.
i have tried setting up other usernames and passwords on this host, but it still wont connect.
if anyone has any advice on this id appreciate it.
also just to confirm (its been a while since i used pc anywhere)
as an external user, i should be able to dial in via a modem (using the pc anywhere username and password supplied) once authenticated i should be able to send a ctrl+alt+del command and take over the pc?
i dont need to have pc anywhere installed on the machine that is trying to connect to the host?
Regards
Damien

Hello,
There are several reasons for error 721. Please check following. Also confirm OS of remote and host.
Check modem is dialling correct number. You can do this by listening to the modem speaker or lifting the phone just after it dials. You may hear someone say "The number you dialled has not been recognized" or the likes. If so change number.
Check that you have not accidentally clicked on "Use 9 for outside line or a code for long distance calls" in modem settings.
Make sure regional settings are all correct, and also country settings.
You may get this error when dialling within an internal office Network. Talk to your Administrator for further Help.
Update Modem drivers.

PCA 12.1 host no longer recognizing passwords from remotes
I have perhaps a similar problem with PCA 12.1. I have a 5-computer home LAN interconnected by PCA. All has gone well until recently I had to reformat the HD on one of the computersand re-install Windows XP SP3. Then I re-installed PCA 12.1. I also re-installed Norton Internet Security.
The problem I have now is that the re-installed PCA host does not recognize the password when it is presented by any of the other 4 remotes. Clearly the host is being connected, but it asks for the username and password again and again. I can use the remotes on the affected machine to access hosts on any of the other computers on the LAN. The problem persists even when I temporarily disable the Norton Internet Security. I have tried re-installing PCA several times and it does not help. I want to emphasize that the PCA network was working fine, with the Norton Internet Security running, prior to the changes made in this one troublesome computer. Also, as far as I can tell with Windows Explorer, I have successfully set access privileges to all folders on all computers to all other computers on the LAN.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
From your effected host you could try this
From your effected host you could try this, set up a host on the effected host a new one and set it to use pcAnywhere authenticaiton so that you can eliminate windows authentication issues. Then set a remote on the same computer and connect to 127.0.0.1 the loop back address. This will be connecting to your self effectivly and eliminate the network. And with a pcAnywhere account you will eliminate the windows accounts. Once you can do this then you can branch our and determine what component was not set correctly.
Cheers.
