  • 1.  Can't decrypt .pst files encrypted with Symantec Endpoint Encryption Client

I burned several .pst files to a DVD and symantec encrypted each file. Now when I try to add the files back, they appear as .xml files and Symantex does not automatically decrypt the files. Outlook does not recognize them becaue they have all been converted to .XML files. I attempted to recover them through excel using the "Get External Data" options from XML Data import, but I receive an error stating "Invalid file reference. The path to the file is invalid, or one or more of the referenced schemas could not be found."

When I open one of the files with word pad, the header reads "<?xml version+"1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?><!--GETRSFileHeaderSize=0x000009D6--><GETEncryptedDataFileversion="x.x.x">, etc.

Its obviously an encrypted file, so why won't Symantec open it so that I can input my password to decrypt it? By the way, I have Symantec Endpoint Encryption version 8.2.1.

I have also been affected by the same issue. I am running Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 MP7 and Symantec Encryption Server. PST files that have been encrypted I am not able to secessfully decrypt and open them in Outlook anymore.

To avoid this I have implemented a server policy with "Prevent the encryption of files into The Following Folders". I have dedicated folder where I store my PST files locally and prevent encryption under that folder.

With SEE RS, was the Access utility copied to the DVD as well?  If not, what options do you get when you right-click a file on the DVD?

Edin, your case seems to be with the PGP line of products.  Are you saying that you encrypt a pst with SED, then after decrypting it will not load in Outlook any longer?  Are the pst files in a FileShare?  If so, it would not be able to dynamically load them into Outlook.  The file would need to be decrypted and moved first.

When I copied over the files an automatic pop up appeared and requested the password be inputted. It didn’t mention anything about copying over an access utility copy.

When I right click on the files, it does give me the options for GEcad.exe and SEE Client Application. However the GECad.exe doesn’t do anything and the SEE Client Application tells me that the program is already running a session and to use that session.

I can open SEE Client Application from the start menu, but it doesn’t allow me to decrypt anything.
