Check all services are running on the task Server and check the Task server for errors in the Windows and Altiris logs.

Try:

http://TaskServer.domain.com/Altiris/ClientTaskServer/GetComputerCount.aspx

This should return the number of clients connected to any Task Server.

This article isn't for your specific error but does give some good troubleshooting tips:

Thanks Andy. Nothing really there that can help. The odd thing is it will run a task but NS doesn't get updated to tell it that task has completed. I know I need to update to the latest version but hopefully this isn't forced on me with this issue.

Got an answer from support regarding this issue.

Looks like there was a load of tasks that were still sitting with a status of running still in the DB. Some, very old indeed.  support ran a SQL code that showed these tasks. They were removed by setting the status to finished. this cleared the backlog. This also reduced teh AtrsHost.exe down from 1.5gb to 87Mb.

thanks to support for their help.

Joe.
