Any update on this? I'm having the same problem and didn't get any help from Symantec support.

I've tried both the online SIM installer from the Altiris website and the DVD iso from the Dell website. After I go through the initial prereqs and get to the point where I should be able to select the Dell Client Manager 3.2 Standard from the Symantec Install Manager, I see nothing but the Dell Management Console 2.0. Frustrating...here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing

Hi Eco_IT,

as far as I understand you're installing Symantec Management Platform 7.1 and unfortunately there is no release of Dell Client Manager compatible with it (DCM 3.2 is compatible only with the previous version of SMP - 7.0).

Thank you.

Hi ramondf,

do I understand correctly that you attempt this installation on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64?

Problem is that this OS is supported by Symantec Management Platform 7.1 only and there is no Dell Client Manager release for Symantec Management Platform 7.1 (DCM 3.2 is compatible only with Symantec Management Platform 7.0).

Thank you.

Will it be supported in the next update? If so, is there an ETA on the update?

Hi Ben,

There are no plans to move DCM in its current state forward to SMP 7.1. Instead, our plan is to incorporate the key features of DCM into CMS 7.1+. Some of that work could be out as early as the latter part of 2011, and we'll get the details out as soon as the engineering work is properly scoped. I'm interested in your feedback and in hearing what features in DCM you currently use.

Thanks,

-Hugo, Product Management

Do we uninstall DCM 3.2 leaving ITMS 7.0 behind or can we just upgrade the CMDB provided all other solutions are the same? I havent't been able to find any advice on this.

We have a client with DCM 3.2 but who needs the fixes in 7.1 and improved Software Management of 7.1 SP1 more than they need DCM features.

with upgrade to 7.1 you need to move to another server anyway (and attach your 7.0 database to this new installation) so you don't get any benefits by uninstalling Dell solutions from 7.0 CMDB first. You will need to ask support for TECH159959 to resolve possible problems anyway.

I'm not familiar with the Symantec managment platform. All I was trying to do was test the Dell Client Manager solution, which led me to a Altiris site for the download. That download then installs SMP 7.1

Here's where I started:

http://www.symantec.com/business/theme.jsp?themeid=dell_client_manager

click the "Download Now"

Then select the "Dell Client Manager 3.2 Standard"

That's the installer I'm using to try and install DCM 3.2 Standard, which consequently installs SMP 7.1, which another symantec employee has told me is not supported by DCM 3.2. Am I missing something? If I try this installer on a Windows Server 2008 SP2 box, should it install SMP 7.0 and then consequently I'll have DCM 3.2 Standard as a module to install?

Hi Eco_IT,

unfortunately wrong SIM version (7.1) was available for download in this location. Now it's fixed and correct version (7.0) is placed there - it would install NS 7.0 on Windows Server 2003 x86 and allow installation of DCM 3.2 after this.

You have two options:

- Symantec Installation Manager 7.1 that installs Symantec Management Platform 7.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

- Symantec Installation Manager 7.0 that installs Symantec Management Platform 7.0 on Windows Server 2003 R2 x86

Only the second option allows installation of DCM 3.2.

I now have the option to install DCM 3.2 Standard on my Server 2003 R2 instance. Thanks!

Hi,

I can't seem to find the download link for SIM 7.0.

The Download Now link on the Dell Client Manager page http://www.symantec.com/business/theme.jsp?themeid... takes me to the Altiris Product Family page http://www.symantec.com/business/products/family.j.... When I select Parnter Products and then Dell Client Manager it takes me back to the Dell Client Manager page on which the Download link takes me back to the Altirs Product Family page...

What is the direct download link for SIM 7.0 ?

Dmitri_Gornev's picture

there is no direct download link for SIM 7.0 but it could be downloaded by using DCM 3.2 download link.

Go to http://dell.symantec.com/dell-downloads and click on "Dell Client Manger Standard 3.2" link there - this would bring you to download page where you can get SIM 7.0 package.

Hmmm..  interesting that you say it doesn't work.. maybe I have a fluk..   I installed DMC 2.0.1 over my 7.1 console and it appears to be working..

Dell Version: 2.0.1
Symantec NS Version: 7.1.6797

Please note that you installed Dell Management Console (DMC) - it really has SMP 7.1 compatible version.

This thread is about Dell Client Manager (DCM).

Hey guys, I'm trying to download Dell Client Manager Standard and the lonk provided keeps looping back to this: http://www.symantec.com/maintenance/unavail/unavailable.html

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

andykn101's picture

That will then let you download Dell Client Manager.

But it's on an out of date Symantec Management Platform now.
