  • 1.  Can't Install SEP v11.0.5002 on Windows 7 32Bit

    Hi,

I'm trying to install SEP v11.05002 via the SEPM console, using the 'Find Unmanaged/Unknown Computers' wizard. I have a clean Windows 7 32bit laptop (Dell Latitude D630), which I am trying to install too. I can find the client, tick the box in either unmanaged/unknown, the installation starts, but then returns the status as failed.

I am installing using an account with domain admin rights, a folder is created on the C: of the target machine under "C:\Temp\Clt-Inst" and 2 files are copied; vpremote.exe, and vpremote.dat. No SEP_INST.log is created under %temp%.

I have searched the forum and found the following posts:
    http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/unable-deploy-1105-client-windows-7-64-bit
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH122894&locale=en_US

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/install-symantec-endpoint-protection-11-client-package-windows-7

From these I have tried rebooting, deleting the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations", and finally installing LiveUpdate 3.3 and running it.

None of the above has worked. I haven't tried installing manually using the setup.exe, as I would like to push this out to our domain using the SEPM console, as we have 700 client computers, so manually isn't a realistic option!

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Ben

try installing locally on the machine and see if it gets installed, and also check the client install log is generated. If not you need to configure the client package to have log generated and the path it needs to present.

    Do the following:

    1. Reboot the computer.

    2. Uninstall liveupdate 3.3

    3. Delete the  folders:

     C:/Program data/Symantec/Liveupdate and C:/program files/Symantec/Liveupdate.

    4. Now, export a managed client install package from SEPM, with the  box " create a single.exe" unchecked.

    5. Now replace the  files, luall.exe and luchk.exe from this  exported package  from these  files  in the  DVD/SEP folder.

    6. Now  run the SETUP.exe from the exported package... it should  work..

If tyou  install RU^ MP1 or  higher, you  should  not  face  the  issue...if possible, try  installing  RU6 mp1 or higher

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

THe client install settings are the default, which has 'enable installation logging' ticked, and a path of %temp%\SEP_INST.LOG

I have just tried the Migration & Deployment Wizard, and that seems to have worked successfully. Strange that this would work, but the SEPM console doesn't! However, I can probably get along with the Migration & Deployment Wizard to deploy this to the 700 machines on our domain.
