Can't install unmanaged client
Hello all.
I have been struggling all morning to install a trial version of the Symantec Endpoint client application. I need the trial version for now, then will get the license off the IT guys when my office re-opens in the new year. Without Symantec, I can't log into my company servers and get to files, so can't work. It has been a frustrating day so far!
I went here: https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=117524&in...
and got this file: Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.2_Part1_Trialware_EN
It auto-extracted, so I didn't notice the setup.exe and just went into the folder that I had seen created. Unfortunately that was the SEPM folder, so I installed the Manager. Realised my mistake, uninstalled it, rebooted and used the setup.exe to install an unmanaged client. But that option ("install an unmanaged client") is greyed out. So I can only install the Manager, which isn't what I'm after.
I have ...
- uninstalled all Symantec products via Programs and Features
- rebooted
- checked that setup.exe still has unmanaged client greyed out
- run Norton Removal Tool
- manually removed everything with Symantec in it via regedit and search/delete
- run registry cleaner in ccleaner
- run ccleaner
- rebooted
- tried running setup.exe as admin
But still no good. Unmanaged client still greyed out. Is there something else that I need to do?
Thanks in advance.

Is there a SEP or SEP x64 folder? Or was the SEPM the only one in there?

Hello again. Thanks for the replies.
I have included a screenshot below, showing the greyed out option.
The file that I downloaded included 3 folders: documentation; resource; SEPM. Other than that there were autorun, setup and version information files. No SEP folder, unfortunately.

HI,
I think Unmanged Package are not available .
Try to Download new Trial version
Use the same Symantec Community (SymAccount) user name and password to login.
Once you are logged in, you would be able to download the SEP 12.1 RU2.

Oh, so the "Tools" package is RU2 and is what I need?
Actually, I have just managed to get a package off my IT team which has done the job, so this topic can be closed now. Worth pointing out, in case somebody is listening from Symantec, that it really is not clear which file does what. Also, the file I have eventually used is about 60MB, whereas the two files on this trial download page add up to a massive 1.25GB.
Thanks to all for the help. Much appreciated.

The tools package doesn't contain RU2, it contains tools which will be helpful in supporting SEP.
There is usually another folder call SEP which contains the client install. But it sounds like you were able to get if from your IT staff.

Thanks again for the responses. Unfortunately I can't mark any as being the solution, as I can't be sure that they would have worked unless I download the files and trying to install. That wouldn't be practical for me at this point, I'm afraid.

I just downloaded the latest version and have the exact same problem. Is there any way to install the "unmanaged client" ?
This is for SEP 11, but works with SEP 12.1 also

Just ran the msi from the folder.
Navigate to \SEP 12.1\Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.601.4699_Full_EN\SEP and double click the sep.msi or setup.exe

There is no SEP folder. There is a SEPM folder, but no SEP.
That is strange. Can you try creating an unmanged setup from the SEPM and try to install that
