Symantec Management Platform (Notification Server)

I'm unable to push the installation of the Altiris Agent on many machines so I decided to RDC my machines and download the agent from the URL listed in the push installation tab on the NS.  For the most part, this works about 90% of the time.  But for some reason when I try to access the page from certain machines, the site just has a site error.  It's not the site itself because I can access the site from other machines just fine.  The OS for the machines are Windows Vista and Windows 7 and yes I'm using the URL specifically for Windows machines.  I'm not sure why the site won't work.  As far as I'm aware the firewalls are disabled when I do this so I'm trying to figure out why this site isn't working?

Still looking for a solution if anyone happens to have any helpful info on this?  I've been made aware that push installs only have about a 15% success rate for some reason (according to some Symantec employee on the phone), maybe the pull install has the same problem?

Unless something is setup improperly, or all pre-reqs were not met for the client machines, then the success rate should be much higher than 15%.

Without more information, such as what the site error is, it is hard to determine how to troubleshoot this. Not being able to access the page is IIS related and not necessarily Altiris related.

That's what I thought to, but someone in Symantec Tech Support told me the success rates for push installs were relatively low.  15% is what he threw out there.  Our team is currently rebuilding the server entirely due to upper management issues and complaints.  I'll test everything out again and we'll see if the problem still persists.

Please post your results too. The only way I can see it being that low is if you tried to blast the SMA out to a lot of computers at once. This is never a good practice since you can quickly lose control of the situation and things break, to put it bluntly. I can understand a 15% failure rate meaning an 85% success rate. While not ideal, still its better.

Just remember, since you are rebuilding, roll out the agent in phases. Don't target every computer (not sure what size your company is) and hope for the best.

It may not apply here, but in cases where you can't pull or push, sometimes the client's antivirus software can be the issue (use caution of course).

Thanks again for the replies. I'll keep the tips in mind when the server is up and running. I'm not sure if the antivirus server is the issue since we use SEP on all our clients.

Ok, apparently rebuilding the server solved whatever problem I was having.  We've been researching this and it looks like we were having credential problems and one of our network admins blocked the SMP NS.  On top of that we were having ping issues and bad connections that have been address.  I haven't seen anymore unusual issues since. 

I still don't know why a pull install would fail though, but luckily I haven't had any issues yet with that.  Will update if I find anything new.  Thanks for the reply's!
