I wound up going with a another virus SW, consumed too much time struggling with SEP.
Many thanks to all of you for your help, I sincerely appreciate the responses. My problem was that I uninstalled SEP following the manual directions, so there are no apparent traces of SEP on my machine to follow the various suggestions to uninstall. It's obvious that I must have some obscure SEP registry still embedded in my computer. Unfortunately, the license agreement through my company blocks me from opening a Support Case direct with Symantec to obtain CleanWipe, must go through my company's help desk. As far as the other suggestions such as obtain other SEP version, unintalling, etc - I only have access to the version my company purchases. So short of spending several more hours/days trying to get throgh all the SEP security gates to start using this virus SW, it was easier and cheaper in the long run to go with another virus SW.
