I have a W7 64-bit. I use SEP11-HOME64bit from my work. Due to the “blue screen of death” boot up problem with SEP, I had to manually uninstall SEP 11 in safe mode. I followed the published Symantec manual uninstall process and methodically removed all the SEP files and got my machine to boot up. Next, tried to reinstall SEP 11.  At the end of the installation, the process retracted itself. Tried some of the published work arounds associated with this common problem, but with no luck. SEP_inst.log file attached. Can someone help?

from teh attached log, the LU install failed. Install LU first and then run the sep setup.

Right click the LUSETUP.EXE in the SEP or SEPWIN64 directory and run as administrator, then do the same for the SETUP.EXE.

    LURegMSL - Start
    LURegMSL - CoCreateInstance failed : error -2147221164

thumbs up to the above suggestion.

    Uninstall both SEP & LU.

    reboot.

    Install LU first

    then SEP.

    Hi,

Possibly previously installed SEP entries are present

    1. Run CleanWipe in the machine.

    2. Install the SEP client with a new user account with administrative permissions

Check this article: How to get the CleanWipe tool (Endpoint Removal)

Additionaly, please confirm if SP1 for Windows 7 is installed. If yes, you need to install SEP 11.0.7 (RU7) or newer (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH167664).

I wound up going with a another virus SW, consumed too much time struggling with SEP.

Many thanks to all of you for your help, I sincerely appreciate the responses.  My problem was that I uninstalled SEP following the manual directions, so there are no apparent traces of SEP on my machine to follow the various suggestions to uninstall.  It's obvious that I must have some obscure SEP registry still embedded in my computer.  Unfortunately, the license agreement through my company blocks me from opening a Support Case direct with Symantec to obtain CleanWipe, must go through my company's help desk.  As far as the other suggestions such as obtain other SEP version, unintalling, etc - I only have access to the version my company purchases.  So short of spending several more hours/days trying to get throgh all the SEP security gates to start using this virus SW, it was easier and cheaper in the long run to go with another virus SW.
