Hi,

We have tapes from our old server that were created with Backup Exec 9.1 on LTO2 tapes.  The tapes span 2 cartridges.

We received a new server and had Backup Exec 12.5 with SP3 installed (all patches are up to date, checked with Liveupdate).  The new server has an LTO4 tape drive installed.

When place the first tape of the two tape set in the drive and perform an inventory and then follow up with a catalog the following message is displayed:

Backup Exec Alert: Job Failed
(Server: "ADMCSSSERVER") (Job: "Catalog 00009") Catalog 00009 -- The job failed with the following error: The requested media is not listed in the media index and could not be mounted. To add the media's catalog information to the disk-based catalogs, run an inventory operation on the media and resubmit the Catalog operation.

we have followed the instructions given in the error description (Inventory & Catalog) and we still get the same error message.

We are running MS Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Were your 9.1 jobs run as

Were your 9.1 jobs run as appends - as sometimes you can get this erro and it is actually asking for an earlier tape in the append family?

BackupExec has always (by

BackupExec has always (by default) required that all volumes in backupset be inventoried before any of them can be cataloged

See page 514 of the Admin Guide for some options

Specifically  deselect   "Request all media in the sequence for catalog operations"
