Can't restore from my BKF file. Need a solution.

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi friends,

I'm using Symantec Backup Exec 2012 to back up my Windows Server data as well as my computer data. Last month I created two BKF files, one for system (ABC) and another one for Windows Server (XYZ). Last week I needed to restore ABC BKF file, but I found the file corrupted. But when I checked XYZ BKF file, it was working fine. I mean I could open the file, but can't this one (ABC). Is there any one who can help me in this?

Many thanks in advance. smiley

If ABC is corrupt and unreadable, then there is nothing much that you can do about it.  A data recovery specialist maybe able to help in this case, if the data is crucial.

Certainly it is. I asked some data recovery specialists, but they don't do anything in a case of split BKF file. Actually my BKF file is split into multiple parts. Any help?

If it is split into multiple .bkf, you can catalog the good parts and restore whatever is available in the good parts.  That is about it.  There is nothing that BE can do about the corrupted part.

I don't understand. May you please go inside the depth?

If your backup set comprises 1.bkf and 2.bkf and 1.bkf is corrupt, you can catalog just 2.bkf and restore what ever is present in 2.bkf.  1.bkf is a write-off.

Dear pkh, thanks for your kind and assistance in a timely-manner. The ABC BKF file is split into five parts, 4 GB each. When I restore the first part, it asks me to select the next file. I do so, but as the file is corrupted it doesn't restore anything from it. When I check the data which is restored from first part, the data seems to be corrupted since the remaing part is saved inside the next file.

Anything more you see here? enlightened

There is nothing much you can do as the second part is bad.

Dear full_H, thanks for your suggestion. I found several BKF recovery software on Google and other search engines. But no one supports a split BKF recovery.

I just saw sysinfotools backup exec BKF repair software. It reads software supports corrupted BKF recovery which are compressed and split into parts. I'm going with its demo version. Let me check how it goes here.

Regards.

Hey, where's the post of full_H? I could see the post before my last comment, but can't see it now. Is he/she declared spammer?

Wow, I done this. ABC has no problem now. The software recommended by full_H was really great. I couldn't believe that it recovered my split BKF file. SysInfoTools Backup Exec BKF Repair software is undoubtedly amazing.

Thanks a lot again.

Regards.
