Can't See Certain MS Products Installed in Deployment Console

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone has any tips.  I am installing patches manually (another issue which I'll post another question later on perhaps) but I can't filter computers by certain programs because they don't show up in the list of installed applications.  Wondering if there's any easy way for Altiris to extract application info elsewhere on the PC, and the process of doing that.

Some examples of apps that don't show up are:
Windows Media Player
Office updates

Would also like to get version info too if possible.

I am currently running Altiris Deployment Server 6.9 and Deployment Console 6.8 SP2.

Note:  I don't have Notification Server Agents loaded because of an issue where computers would BSOD.  I think it was Carbon Copy that was conflicting with our video drivers, but haven't had the chance to 100% confirm.  So I am only running the Deployment Agent (maroon "a" with blue server status circle).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Two quick comments

I'm almost certain that the DS inventory primarily comes from the add\remove programs. In any case, it isn't a comprehensive scan like NS inventory. I also doubt you can add\extract any additonal information, without looking into the SDK.

And, you are correct, the blue screen was a carbon copy agent, with certain intel chipsets, which required the checking of the box "use sychronous remote control" (and a reboot).

Carbon Copy Agent

My understanding of the Carbon Copy agent is only to remote control from DS web console?  If that's the case, is there a way to install the NS agent without carbon copy?  Because we are a small shop and only use the DS console.

The DS remote control

is built in and doesn't leverage the fully Carbon Copy plugin. You can easily install the NS agent and then choose not to enable the Carbon Copy agent plugin.

I'm assuming you mean to just

I'm assuming you mean to just leave CC unchecked in the NS config section.  Thanks....

While our license has expired and we are in the process of looking to CMS 7.  I might load it on a few computers just to test and get familiar with.

I might hold off on installing to all our computers as I'd like a fresh CMS 7 NS agent installed and not deal with upgrading them.
