Capture image to different location???
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 9 comments
The default location is this,
C:\Program Files\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\Images
And images are saved to,
.\images\%COMPNAME%.img
However, that default location is always filling up.
And we have to manually move images from the default location to another drive on the DS server.
How do I capture images directly to the other drive?
The other drive is shared out.
On my PC, I mapped to it, and I also have DS console.
For the capture image task, I change .\images\%COMPNAME%.img to T:\%COMPNAME%.img
But, when I try capturing a image, I get error code 40. On the dos/pxe environment, the blue progress comes up, as if capture is about to happen, but it doesn't happen, and I get that error code.

Hello
I also had the same problem and resolved. I mapped the altiris Image folder with D drive.
Take a look here (Altiris knowledgebase Article ID: 33382)

Thanks. What's the KB called? Your link doesn't work.
You may have to make an entry in the Control Panel; Altiris Deployment Server Options; Drive Mapping tab. Not sure. A suggestion for future: We started at day 1 with Altiris DS putting the installation and all images on a drive other than the system drive. It makes thing MUCH easier to update, expand, etc.
Any other suggestions?
Still a pain having to move large image files back and forth between the production location and the extra storage location.
Another solution might be to make the "images" folder in the old location an empty folder and mount the new drive directly to the empty folder. I've done this in the past and have not had any problems, however, I don't believe it is recommended.

I'm not the sys (or altiris) admin, just support staff that uses the product. Interestingly, I think we had a Altiris consultant onsite that installed the product with the sys admin; and I'm suprised we don't have much more space on the image store, which by the way is the same location as the DS install. There's another partition that has space, nothing is on there, I'm not sure why they didn't set it up to point to there to begin with.
bhawver, yes that's right!, can mount drive/partition to a folder, thanks for the recall.
You need to be sure that the drive is mapped in the pxe boot image. This means that you will need to remake the pxe image if you haven't already.
For example, we use WinPE 2.1. During the boot disk creator process you can setup an additional share. In my situation I set up a g:\ drive which I use for imaging. The drive that you map in dos must match the drive that you specify in your imaging job.
Does this make sense?
