Capturing Office 2007 in a SWV layer for distribution
I'm trying to create a base image with Windows 7 (RTM 7600.16385) for a tech refresh and I want to have Office 2007 as a layered application. (I am using SWV 6.1.4113). However, the normal captures don't seem to work, and I keep getting Error 2603 and Error 2602 during the install. However, if an install of Office 2007 is done without trying to capture it to a layer, the app installs just fine.
Can anyone provide detailed step-by-step instructions on the best way on how to do this?
By the way, I did a search on fixing the Error 2603 and Error 2602 and found 2 possible solutions. The first was to give the System account ownership of the C:\Windows\Installer folder. The second was to install the 2005 C++ redistributable (VCREDIST_x86.exe). Neither one fixed the problem.
I realize that Windows 7 isn't supported yet, but just in case there was someone who has done the magic mystery process and got it to work, I thought I would ask anyway.
Thanks!
You'll have to wait till SWV
You'll have to wait till SWV 6.1 SP1 to capture on Win7, with MP1 capture doesn't work, Also, if I remember correctly, Office 2007 captured on XP won't work on Win7 with MP1 either but Vista might--though due to the lack of transaction support when you capture Office 2007 on Vista, or Win7, a lot of registry keys leak to the base and aren't in the layer.

Oh, I have no intention of propagating a layered install of Office across multiple operating systems. If I capture it on Vista, it will only go on Vista. If I capture it on Win7, it will only go on Win7. It's not something I need right now so there is no rush. We're just in the planning stages of a tech refresh scheduled for about Feb or March and I'm just trying to look forward and see what would be ideal.
Right now, all our machines have Office 2007, installed via Altiris and a transform file. Everything is working and everyone is happy.
I'm just testing our options and we have layered apps that would have been a nightmare to support, had it not been for the fact that they were layered and hitting the "reset" button worked perfectly to fix problems the users caused.
Thanks Jordan! You're always helpful.
