Carbon Copy service stops
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 2 comments
We are rolling out Carbon Copy to about 35 Windows server 2000 machines. We have a problem with the service just stopping. We have the GPO set to make sure it starts, but the service is just not reliable.
I have looked over both the Windows logs, and the CCW32 log. Nothing in either indicates a issue at all. I am not even sure the OS relaizes the service is stopping.
This product and Win2000 has always been a fight, but this is unacceptable. I need this to work.
We are using 6.2.1144. It seemed more reliable with 6.1.2003 to be honest. I have looked over forum posts and KB's for hours. I was hoping someone here could help.
I might call support as well, but is anyone else seeing this issue?

Biobob,
We haven't upgraded to CC 6.2 here...but a few questions:
1) Do you have other Remote Control software installed on these boxes (i.e. PCAnywhere, VNC, etc)?
2) Do your users connect to these servers using RDP/Remote Desktop?
3) Are your video drivers current?
4) Any sort of KVM connection in the mix?
So there is nothing in the System or Application event log saying that the service stopped?
Thanks,
Kyle

Let me answer your questions the best I can:
1) Do you have other Remote Control software installed on these boxes (i.e. PCAnywhere, VNC, etc)?
No. Carbon Copy is the only solution.
2) Do your users connect to these servers using RDP/Remote Desktop?
Yes. Due to some compliance issues we need to be able to support both connection methods. I know CC has had issues with RDP in the past, but I thought most of that was just the black screen issue.
3) Are your video drivers current?
It's a mixed bag. These are for the most part older server class machines. Dell 1600sc or Dell 840.
4) Any sort of KVM connection in the mix?
No. No KVM involved but the users do use the console.
So there is nothing in the System or Application event log saying that the service stopped?
Nope, that is the weird thing, and that is what is driving me nuts.
Carbon Copy has never been reliable to be honest.
