Carbon Copy Solution installation failure: Event ID 11708

Greg Englund's picture

I have just installed NS 6 on a dev server with the DBs on a dedicated SQL server. All solutions have installed successfully with the exception of Carbon Copy. It fails with Event ID 11708. I cannot find anything out of order and have tried multiple avenues. I've attached the install log and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Are you installing this manually?

Or from solution center? This sounds like the the old 'unable to add product web' error. The install log isn't that helpful, but I'm curious to know if you have any other (even visual errors)? How about the Altiris logs?

I have tried installing from

I have tried installing from both the Solution Center and from the download on solutionsam. The problem occurs on 2 new separate dev esx vm servers. All other solutions install without issue. There are no visual errors other than the failure to install message. It goes on to install the reports and docs successfully.

I should have checked the logs before but I am now seeing that there is a check for Barcode Solution when the the CC installation is first launched. Hmmm.... I have attached the alogs to the opening entry to this discussion.

Thanks for looking at this, Jim.

Licensing?

Error: An unexpected exception has occured during CreateInstance. (Assembely:Altiris.CarbonCopy, Version=6.2.1144.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d516cb311cfb6e4f Type:Altiris.CarbonCopy.CarbonCopySolution)
<License error="true" SolutionGuid="{C432B710-F971-11A2-8643-20105BF409AF}" SolutionName="" Trial="False" Status="Unlicensed" Available="10000000" InUse="0" DaysRemaining="0" />

Can you try applying the CC solution license first, then installing it? If this dev server has been sitting around and the trial is up maybe it won't install. I've never seen that but worth a try.

Try this too based on your log files for 47 and 48 https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=32079&p=1

We are rebuilding both dev

We are rebuilding both dev servers because of partition configuration issues. Will update as soon as that is done and I retry the CC installation. Thanks to all who are looking into this.

Will do but both dev servers

Will do but both dev servers are brand new VMs and current licenses were applied.

One thing I did try before the rebuild process started was to delete the license files using LicenseManager2.exe (I think this was from Blue Willow.). After the deletion it did still show Carbon Copy even though all of the other licenses were gone. I added all licenses back in and there was still only one entry for CC. Is there something in the DB that was hanging on to the license for just CC?

I think I've seen that

I think I've seen that license manager stuff and even used it with pre NS 6.0 SP3. That was kind of a last stab when I started using that. I don't remember what caused or fixed the stale CC license table... also check that last post, I'm a chronic post editor.

I see your updated post. I

I see your updated post. I had already tried re-registering dotnet but it didn't change anything.

The only way to remove licenses

post SP3 is to launch the certificates MMC and then delete them from the server.

start -> run -> mmc -> add snapin -> certificates -> local computer (save and open).

The Dev servers have been

The Dev servers have been rebuilt and after reinstalling there have been no issues. I installed Carbon Copy as the first solution and everything went through without a hitch. Don't know what happened but it is all working now. I will keep the license removal issue in mind for the future.

Thanks Jim and Brandon for your time and resources!!
