Hi All,

I got a some small query.

I am going to upgrade netbackup 6.5 to 7. My existing platform is SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (i586)/Kernel -2.6.5-7.244-bigsmp. And my client is providing me RHEL 4 for the flatform.

We were going to upgrade in the following way:-

Step 1 - Install a system with Netbackup 6.5 and export the hot catalog backed up from previous 6.5 Master Server.

Step 2 - Now, Upgrade the 6.5 master to 7.0 and check the database and EMM consistancy.

The query were as follows:-

1. How to take hot catalog backup in 6.5, as I haven't found any online/hot catalog options.

2. Do we have the catalog(from 6.5) clean or some thing that will make ready for 7.0?

3. Is there any issue with the change of OS platform(From Suse Linux to RHEL)

Thanks.

With Regards,

Mrinal

Hi,   1. There is a policy

Hi,

1. There is a policy type in NetBackup called NBU-Catalog. You'll need to configure a policy with this type to perform a hot catalog backup. You can check page  in this guide http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/290201.htm

2. Run NBCC and verify it with support, check this note to verify NBDB consistency http://support.veritas.com/docs/340464, and check your EMM for bugs http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/355141

3. Technically SUSE to RHEL might be considered a platform change. Since they're both linux I think it might be OK, but i would verify this with support. They might suggest you contact a Symantec Consulting partner to migrate it for you.

4. Check the upgrade portal for the latest docs and tips http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH74584

nbcc BEFORE upgrade

Just one point that you mentioned:

"Now, Upgrade the 6.5 master to 7.0 and check the database and EMM consistancy. "

You need to do nbcc BEFORE you upgrade to NBU 7.

You may also find the following of use:

Using catalog backup and recovery to transfer NetBackup catalogs between UNIX or Linux master servers as part of a hardware refresh

"...
Note that additional steps are required when moving to or from a Red Hat Linux master server running NetBackup 6.x (i.e. all versions of NetBackup 6.0 and 6.5). These additional steps are required because of differences in the EMM database configuration between Red Hat Linux and other operating systems in NetBackup 6.x and are not required for NetBackup 7.0 and above.

Regarding the NBCC Utility.

Hi ,

Regarding the NBCC  utility, do I have to download the utility as I do not found the nbcc.exe in the following path (for Netbackup 6.5).:-

... /veritas/netbackup/bin/support/

Where 'll I get the utility.

Please, help.

I have got the details about the NBCC (for netbackup 6.5) in the following link:-

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67795

Use the following:

Links to the latest NBCC / NBCCR downloads.
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

Don't worry about the fact it says v7.0.1 I used this just this week on our 6.5.4 master.

***EDIT***

The actual link for the NBCC states the following:

The NBCC 7.0.1 utility:
      - Should be applied to the NetBackup master server.
      - Is compatible with NetBackup versions 3.X, 4.X, 5.X, 6.X and 7.X.
      - Can be run in environments where previous versions of NBCC have been run.

If you look at the README:

If you look at the README: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH140582

    The NBCC 7.0.1 utility:
      - Should be applied to the NetBackup master server.
      - Is compatible with NetBackup versions 3.X, 4.X, 5.X, 6.X and 7.X.
      - Can be run in environments where previous versions of NBCC have been run.

All nbcc executables for all Master server versions are included in the 7.0.1_nbcc.zip file.

nbcc.exe is for Windows master. You will find nbcc for Linux once you have extracted the zip-file.

When you ftp the nbcc file to the master, you need to check that the file has execute permission before running it.
