catalog missing when hitting "restore" on SQL Databases

Created: 01 Apr 2014 | 3 comments

Dear all!

Produkt: Symantec Backup Exec 2012 SP4

Issue:
I'm doing a SQL Database Backup (don't care wich version, I tryied it with sql2008 express and sql server 2005), Backup runs with no errors.
(full & incremental backup, everything fine, no errors).
I'm also doing File-Backup of some folders of the same server where i run the sql backup.

When i hit "restore" and then choose SQL Databases, i can't choose a date where i want to restore from.

When i try to restore a file, I can choose all the dates where backup have been completed.

I tryied several things (for example recatalog the missing media-sets), but they still don't appear at my restore selection.

Anyone else got this issue?

Hi,

Are you using the SQL Agent to do the restore and backup? If not, and you'r doing a file-level backup of SQL, BE will automatically ignore those foldersbased on its Active File Exclusion. Certain files will be excluded from the backups.

Thanks!

Hello,

it sounds like the issue described here  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH202994  the solution is a hotfix but you should already have that installed since you are at sp4.  Check to make sure the Exchange server's remote agent is the same version as the media server.

hi there,

sry for my late reply,
thanks for your hints, but I still got the problem.
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH202994  sounds like the problem i got, but as mentioned above, i allready got SP4 installed on all systems i want to backup (also agent is up to date).

the agent is installed on the server (latest version, SP4), the BE vversion is SP4.

I'm doing a agent backup, backup completes without any error.
After this, i try to do a restore job.

In the restore job, I can't choose the backup-date where i want to restore from. (for SQL Server).

File-Restore is possible, here I can select the date.

at the register "backup sets" i can see the completed sql backups, i can klick on "catalog", a few seconds later catalog job completed with no error (information massage: backup-set allready cataloged, backup set may include no data").

some more ideas?

thx
