ccApp.exe no disk error

I have a comptuer running SEP 11.0.3001.2224. It is unmanage. I get this reoccuring pop-up message from ccApp.exe stating that there is no disk. My options are to continue, retry or cancel. This was not there at the first install but started later. At what point, I do not remember.

Is there some way I can configure SEP to stop this?

Thanks,

Dale

Do you have Viewpoint installed?

We moved some functionality out of RTVScan and into ccApp with SEP, so the KB is relevant

Interesting, a possible connection to the browser. I do not have Viewpoint installed, but I am using Google Chrome browser. I have closed Chrome and opened IE 8 to see if there is a connection.

I have not seen the error for over a week. Last night I burned a DVD and the error returned.

What did you use to burn the DVD?

I have the same problem on

I have the same problem on one of my clients computers. It will just randomly come up with the error "ccapp.exe no disk error". It is looking for something in the D: drive (The cd/dvd drive). It is an unmanaged computer, running SEP 11. I have uninstalled and re-installed the SEP. I have seen the error come up on the screen when the unit is just sitting there, not being used, and no scans are running. They are using IE7. The only add-on's are the usual (Google Toolbar, MSN Toolbar, Shockwave, java).

ccapp.exe no disk

I just started receiving the ccapp.exe no disk error, too.  It cannot find the disk in drive E:, which happens to be my DVD writer.  Here are the only two recent changes.  1. I used Pinnacle video editor to burn a DVD over night and set the system to shut down upon completion.  I removed the DVD from the tray with the machine off in the morning.  2. I purchased a backup external drive and backed up files last night.  My external backup drives are I: and O:.  During the backup process I clicked on the Try Again and Cancel buttons several times in rapid succession to close the warning window.  In the morning when my backup was complete I was required to click cancel seveal times in rapid succession to close the window.

Best of luck figuring this out.  I think SEP somehow thinks the DVD is now part of it's scan and can no longer find the disk.  When I went through the SEP options, I found nothing that would allow me to select which disks to include or eliminate from the scan.

Thank you,

DadOZach

Same problem here

I had an external DVD-player connected via USB to my computer. When I relocated my PC, I removed and left the DVD-player behind. Now I'm getting the same message as described here every once in a while.

One of my users now has it: ccapp.exe no disk error

Just wondering .. could this problem only occur if you have a disk in the DVD/CD drive when you install SEP?  That would account for the randomness of its occurance.   I wonder if a full uninstall, and then reinstall with no disk in the drive, would fix it.

Still no fix though?  What is symantec doing on this issue?

Anybody with a fix please do tell.   thanks!

Just to update this.  I uninstalled SEP using Add/Remove Programs and then manually removed all the remaining dreck from the C drive and from the registry.   I checked to make sure the D drive was empty,  and then reinstalled SEP.

Result:  Problem is gone.   Maybe I didn't have to do the super-deep-clean but I didn't want to do this twice.

As per the other thread, removing viewpoint from add/remove programs worked in my case. It was a lot quickre than removing SEP and then manually cleaning the registry.

ccApp.exe - No Disk Error

This error is driving me nuts.......

I have had this pop-up 10-11 times a day since the anti-virus was updated from an older Symantec version on my work PC.

The current SEP version running on my PC is 11.0.5002.333.

Uninstalling and reinstalling has been tried, and seamed to work for a couple of days but then the pop-ups started coming back again, 3-4 a day to start with but then building quickly to 10 or 11 a day (working hours 8:30am-5pm).

Unlike other people have said within this thread, I do not have viewpoint installed on my machine so removing it is not an option. I have tried disabling IE ad-dons to see if that would make a difference but it did not. Adding the A:\ drive to the exceptions list locally and on the server didn't make a difference either!!

I have noticed people commenting on downgrading IE to version 7 or 6 may help, although I have not tried this yet!!

Can anybody help with a fix to this error????

no disc in the drive

I also am having this issue.  I do not have Viewpoint.  I have never had this problem until recently.  One of two things could have been the cause.  1.) some new update that is causing this, or 2.)  I just installed software to transfer a VHS tape to a DVD, and after I burned the DVD, that is when I started having this pop-up.  Any help would be appreciated....this is getting really annoying.

thx

Have you checked shortcuts

I have seen this problem on Windows XP and it was caused by shortcuts in folders that point to files on removable devices (USB, floppy and CD/DVD drives).

Common folders to check (paths will be different for Vista and Windows 7

Recent Documents folder
\Documents and Settings\<userID>\Recent or

Desktop
\Documents and Settings\<userID>\Desktop

When explorer refreshes these folders Symantec intercepts the call (saw this with McAfee as well) and tries to validate the shortcut and can't. That would be when the "No Disk" error would be generated.

These folders get refreshed often, while you are working, which is why this appears to randomly cause this error

There you are.

Shortcuts are causing the problem

I had this same issue with a client of mine today. I hadn't seen it come up before. We're running SEP11 but found that the error only came up when running virus scans. OS is Windows XP Pro

Error: ccApp.exe - No Disk (There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive D:)

Per NyQuil64 suggestion I started searching the drive for shortcut links to the DVD drive.

Found a shortcut to the DVD drive in the quicklaunch bar.

Quicklaunch shortcuts location: C:\Documents and Settings\(YOUR USERNAME)\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Manually scanned the folder location with the shortcut there - received the error.

Manually scanned the folder location with the shortcut removed - no error

*This is not an issue with Symantec, but with the virus scan scanning shortcuts of disk drives with nothing in them.*

*Not sure what caused this, because when I created a new shortcut I didn't receive the error a second time. Possible when the shortcut was created there was something in the drive*
