  • 1.  Central Reporting Server on SEP 11

    Posted Feb 21, 2011 02:59 PM

I am migrating from SAV10 to SEP11. In SAV10, I have 3 SAV servers (one at each location). Each one handles all of the Anti-Virus deployments and updates for that location. The 2 SAV servers in the branch locations then report to the main reporting server in the main office, where I can monitor the reporting from all 3 SAV servers. For some reason, I just cannot find any information about how to do this central reporting in SEP11. I can see the reporting at each individual SEP server on my test bed, but I can't see any setting to point the branch locations reporting to the main office SEP server. Are there any articles on this anywhere that I am missing?

How many Clients do you have in these localtions?

If you have less clients in each location say about 200-500 you can Have 1 SEPM server and manager 3 locations and rather than having Secondary servers you can use GUP so that the clients in remote location will take defs from this GUP and GUP will take defs from Parent SEPM. GUP is kind of replacement of Secondary server of SAV.

If you have more clients in each location then SEPM in your main location will become parent SEPM and install replication Partnet SEPMs in the remote Locations.

YOu will need replication in that case.

    Check this

The difference between the SAV environment and SEP environment in this case needs to be first considered:

In SAV environment, the Reporting server is a separate administrator tool which is used to pull the reports from the Symantec System Centre.

So when the reporting server is configured in the Symantec system centre you will be able to pull the reports of the SAV servers and their respective clients which are in server groups.

In SEP Environment, there is no seperate Reporting server administrator tool,it is all integrated in the Symantec Endpoint Manager,to pull the reports, logs or configure email alerts.

So if you are migrating from SAV to SEP environment, the clients groups and clients information(reports) can be pulled from the SEPM itself. There is no concept of secondary server in SEP,only 1 server which is SEPM and SEP clients. But you can build GUP's in the branch locations so that the clients in that locations can get definitions from their respective GUP(Group update providers).

The centralized SEPM can be used to the pull all the reports of the GUP's and the SEP clients.

Thanks to both of you for the help. That explains exactly what I needed to know. Thanks again.
