Centralized PGP Desktop and Whole Disk Encryption

Created: 02 Dec 2013 | 1 comment

Dear  , We are using PGP Universal Server however we were not using it for full extent . Now we want to use it to Roll out PGP Desktop to some clients and Enable Whole disk Encryption . With the help of a vendor in the past , we have created a Policy in PGP and mapped it with one of AD Group . Any user moved to that group will get WDE automatically  and the user will be using his Windows Password to login to the Laptop however this is not in action yet as I am concerned  about the Data recovery Options .

Can someone guide me on what steps to be done to achieve this .

Hello Subhani,

Follow the best practices, like:

Best Practices: Symantec Drive Encryption - TECH149543

- Configure the recovery options in the Consumer policy (admin passphrase, local self-recovery questions, WDRT, etc)

Since Disk Encryption is highly related with the hardware and low level operating system operations, check the knowledge base for known issues and test in lab before deploying new hardware or important updates. There is important support information in the release notes.

Before going ahead into a larger scale, plan an update of the product. Several issues were resolved in the latest versions (besides the addition of support for latest Operating Systems versions).

Symantec Encryption Current Version Available - TECH187067

- Basic IT best practice: backups!

Hope this helps,
