  • 1.  chainging bandwith throttle checking interval

I was going to change the reg key to have machines check back more frequently then the default 6 hours. I was thinking more like 1 hr. I have roughly 13k clients, was wondering what kind of impact this may put on the network, should it be greater or more frequent even would be ok?
All locations have package servers, but recently we've had a few issues where subnets were not in the site and they went across the wan to get the package and would cripple the network even with throttling turned on. Have it set to if below 512k throttle at 40% currently.

    Any info or thoughts appreciated

The check in time doesn't really affect the network as much, as it's a comparatively small packet. However, it can overload a NS server pretty quickly with requests for updates, especially if they don't need it.

I would, if possible, use the AD Import to automatically set the sites\package server relationships up.

Finally, I would set the throttle to specific speed over a %. What the % does, is during package download, it sends ping packets out repeatedly to determine what the threshold is, and where the download fits into that. So, in my opinion, you actually add MORE overhead by using % vs. a specific download limit.
