How do you change the SEPM 12.1 database account password. Do I just need to change it in AD and run the Configuration Wizard and change it there?

    This for embedded DB?

You should be able to change it by running the management server configuration wizard

The database is not the embeddedDB. It is on an SQL server.

    • On the SQL server go to Start menu - Programs - Microsoft SQL Server - Enterprise Manager
    • Expand the SQL Server Group, the correct SQL server (local) and then the Security section.
    • Select Logins on the left hand side and then properties for the sem5 user account.
    • Type in a new password. (Note: Do not do this on a SQL server currently in use by one or several SEPM servers).
    • Run Management Server Configuration Wizard to set the SEPM to the new password.

How do I reset the sem5 database password with Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0?

    Applies to 12.x as well.

    Hi

You can reset the password through SQL Management Studio and then Run the Management Server Wizard

Is your sql database AD authentication mode ?

if yes you can reset the password in AD and run configuration wizard.

If you change the password for the AD account that you are using as SQL Server login, you have to communicate this to SEPM. SEPM has to know the credentials of the Windows account to log in. It's by design.

You have to run the Management Server Configuration Wizard every time you change this password. Therefore, it's better not to change it and to make correspondent settings in AD.

You may not change anything else while the wizard is running.

    Hello,

Assuming we're talking about the sem5 SQL account created by the SEPM installer, then you can easily change the password for this from the SQL MAnagement Studio, then run the SEPM Managment Server Configuration Wizard to update the password within the SEPM.

The SEPM will then just connect to the DB using the new credentials and should carry on working as normal.

It should not try to create a new DB.

You can also try these steps:

If the password has been forgotten and needs to be reset you can use the Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

Do not do this on a SQL server currently in use by one or several SEPM servers as you would need to reconfigure the SEPM servers using the Management Server Configuration Wizard before being able to connect again.

NOTE: There are high chances that the reporting component may break on the SEPM, and you may have to run the Management Server Configuration Wizard...

If that does not work, high chances you may to end up in completely Uninstall of SEPM.

Please Let the Symantec Connect users know what happens on the same...

How to reset MSSQL user account password:

    1. Start\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server\SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
Note for MSSQL 2005 go to Start\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server 2005\SQL Server Management Studio
    2. Connect to Server window using "Windows Authentication"
    3. Navigate to the Logins object under the Security folder on the SQL Server you wish to administer.
    4. Right click on the user account you wish to change the password for and select Properties or simply double click on it.
    5. A new properties window will open. Enter a new password in the Password field under the Authentication options.
    6. Click OK.

If you are not able to Retrive Password then Check this article -

    Hope that helps!!

You're only changing the Windows server password? Shouldn't affect the SEPM piece of it

    Hi Subhashsa222,

It shouldn't affect Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM). You can set different passwords.
