Changing from Managed to Unmanaged

  • 1.  Changing from Managed to Unmanaged

    Posted Mar 08, 2010 10:01 AM
I work remotely using my laptop for my company in another state. The IT manager made me download Symantec Endpoint. After installation my computer states that I dont have the latest definitions as my computer cannot connect to the server where Endpoint is configured. Is there any other way other than uninstalling and installing as a managed version to overcome the updates?

    Thanks,
    Prabha

I am think about a different way, if the main problem should be download the virus definitions why not enable liveupdate ? There is also the possibility to change policy for mobile users and enable Liveupdate.

    Hello Prachand,

Does the download provided convert the manged client to an unmanaged client? or does it just update the latest definitions?
    Thanks,
    Prabhaharan

    Just for testing
Go to start--->run type regedit and click ok.
Here go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\symantec\symantec endpoint protection\Liveupdate.
Right side set value of UseManagementServer key as 1 also set AllowManualLiveUpdate as 1.
Now the live update button on your client GUI will be enabled.Try by clicking on that.

Do you have the live update button you can click?  If so do you get updates that way?  Did you talk to the IT person about this?

I need to execute Intelligent Updater in some computers.
Normally when executing it a new window appears asking if you really want to execute the update, and waiting a response (Yes or No) from the user to continue the execution.
I would like to know how to "skip" that question to execute the update.
I have to write a script or something like that. So if there is a parameter to set the response to "Yes" it  would be fine.
    Thanks a lot.

you can look at few registry tweaks here which should help you
    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/symantec-endpoint-protection-few-registry-tweaks

however if you are trying to do a Intelligent updater def update remotely then i would suggest doing this way

that is enable inbox on the clients and then you will just need to drop jdb on the client

    to enable Inbox
create a registry value on the SEP client called "TPMState" underHKLM\Software\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC
      TPMState = 0x80
