Clean install of SEPM 12.1.3 missing Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Tools

Created: 08 Aug 2013 • Updated: 09 Aug 2013 | 10 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

We are trying to switch to a MS SQL DB and as part of the instructions we are following from (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH102547) we uninstalled and re-installed SEPM 12.1.3 but the strangest thing has happened. Previously we had an entire program group for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Tools. After the new install these tools did not reinstall. It's somewhat important because I really need the database restore utility.

Check your bin folder in ..\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. Is there a dbtools.bat? Can you doubleclick it to start the "Database Backup and Restore" tool?

Hmmmm...That's not how I read pagte 19 fo the release notes. Windows 2012 is listed as a supported OS.

I would expect the notes to explicitly mention datacenter 2012 but if you have it working than I wouldn't worry about it.

When installing Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 12.1 RU2 on Windows 2012, Database Backup and Restore along with Management Server Configuration Wizard would not be seen under Start >> All Programs >> Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager list.

To Retrive these features, create Shortcuts of dbtools.bat and sca.bat found under C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\bin

  • dbtools.bat would launch Database Backup and Restore.
  • sca.bat would launch Management Server Configuration Wizard.
