CLEANING A STAND ALONE UNIT BACKUP EXEC 11
Created: 29 Aug 2012 | 2 comments
Hi there, new to this forum: We use Backup Exec 11 on a SBS 2003 R2 server and a HP stand alone unit. Backup tasks fail with a warning message saying that cleaning the heads of the unit might be the solution. I have looked trhoughout help and online to perform a cleaning and I did not find the answer. The menu "cleaning" on the tape unit desperately stays in gray and does not appear when I make a right click on the unit. Any help welcome.

Hi
For stand-alone drive you need to insert a cleaning tape in tape drive, the drive will eject the
tape automatically once cleaning job is over.
In additionally, to clean a stand-alone tape drive, please refer to the device manufacturer's manual.
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH146555
So please esnure clening tape is in drive
Thanks
Sameer
Don't forget to give a "Thumbs Up" or Mark as "Solution" if someones advice has helped you.
If after you cleaned your tape drive, it still asked to be cleaned, then the tape drive is probably faulty. You would then need to run the HP LT&T Tool against the tape drive to verify that is is o.k. Make sure that you select the write test and that you have stopped all the BE services beforehand.
