This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi all,

I have a very interesting issue out here..

I have win 2000 server if i installed a  new package on it, then the machine shows a green dot gets register in the manager. But as soon as i reboot the machine it become self manager.  After becomming self managed even if i chaged the sylink it dose not get the green dot. If check the sylink file it show the details of the server..
I am also running with the latest version MR4 Mp2..

Note : There is no GPO or logon script at all...

Interesting issue

I would suggest running the SEP support tool to see what errors/warnings it displays.

I dont remember the warning

I dont remember the warning now, i have ran the tool 3 day ago..But i am sure it was not relevant it was something about memory.

warning about memory.

If the tool gave a warning about memory it was most likely the warning from insufficient resources.

Does the system meet the minimum requirements to run SEP?
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....

If the system doesnt have enough memory to run SEP it will affect its ability to communicate with the SEPM or even load autoprotect.

Hi, in the "selfmanaged"

Hi,

in the "selfmanaged" SEP client, go in help&support > troubleshooting and read the row "Server:", do you read selfmanaged or off-line?

Hi Jeremy

The best past is that client is running it is also getting updated every day the only thing is that it is not talking and becomming self managed.. I dont know why this is happening... This is very suprising to me.. I am sure that memory is not a problem here...

Try this... 1) Admin >

Try this...

1) Admin > Install Packages > Settings

2) Create a new setting which has the option of "Remove all previous logs, policies and reset the client server communication"

3) Use this setting while exporting the package.

4)Install, Don't neccessaily uninstall the previous version. The package will uninstall and install it. Should work...I think.

De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting "Hey!  I found a virus!  Look at me!  I'm soooo goooood!"

Client changes mode

We had a similar problem in our company.  You mentioned you are running MR4 MP2, but is that just on the server that you are having the problem with or is that on your entire SEP environment including your SEPM?

Hi Joney

There can be Multipal reason why a client can become self managed.

- First ther can be permission issue.

- You also go start run & type rsop.msc- it will open a new window.
--> Under computer configrations go to windows setting-- then security setting & click on the system services.. On the right hand side find SEP serivices & check if there is any thing under stratup.
As you have mention above there no GPO but it alwasy better to verify again.

- Just out of the Box create a new pacakge with default setting with only AV & also select the default group for the client.
- Uninstall the old client -- restrat the server & install the with the new package.
