I have an issue where I need to move a couple of machines to a differnt server, but they are never "online" to do so...meaning that I can never ping them.  I have a tool setup to notifiy me if  ping requests ever gets answered from those machines.  In SSC they always show as being online, and even show the latest def's and today's scan date.  How is this possible?

Hi Brian, welcome....

If they're on dhcp, their ip address is changing and the ip change hasn't updated to the server you're running the tool from in time.

It may just be easier for you to send the grc.dat file, from the new server, to the owner and have them put it in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5.  This could also be done through a logon script.

How do you know they're never online? Just because you get no ping reply doesn't mean the PC is off. Windows firewall could be dropping the packets. Also, the fact that SSC shows the latest def and up to date scan date tells you that the PC is on (or was on at some point).

I use Windows logon script to copy GRC.DAT from the new parent server to user's workstation and wait until the user logs on to the AD domain.
