  • 1.  Client Does Not Have Green Dot and Not Showing in SEPM Console

The SEPM Console is version 12.1. the issue I am having is with only one client. I had to set up this workstation for a new user and when deploying the sep install package everything seemed fine and it showed like it installed on the client fine. I had to restart the client a couple of times and i see the SEP GUI and it does not show any problems, but there is no green dot and when I look at the sepm console it is not showing the client. It's like there is an unmanaged version on the client but I installed the install package from SEPM. I waited a while and restarted the workstation again with no luck. I ran live update and it shows everything is updated. I may have to uninstall and reinstall, but wondered if there is any other troubleshooting I can do before having to do that?

From within the SEP 12.1 client interface, If you choose Help > Troubleshooting, you should find some information about whether or not it believes it is a managed client and if it is, why it can't connect to the SEPM (Management, Connection Status).

The Support Tool may also help you dig deeper: Help, Download Support Tool, and take it from there.

Please update with what you find!

Additionally, here is a useful flowchart for troubleshooting communication problems. It should work for 12.1 too:

    You can perform following steps:

1.Open Symantec Endpoint Protection -- click on Help -- Troubleshooting.

    Check for:

-Server name: (It should not be incorrect, offline)

-Group: (It should show appropriate group)

In case if any of the above details are incorrect.

2.Create a Sylink file from SEPM.

  • -Click the Clients tab in the SEPM and select the group you want.
  • -Right click on it and select Export Communication Settings.
  • -Click browse, select a convenient location and name the file "Sylink.xml".
  • -Click Export.
  •
  • 3. Copy this file to the machine locally.
  • -Import the sylink.xml within the client by going to Help > Troubleshooting > Click on Import... under Communication Settings

  • You can also refer to following links:

  • -How to change the sylink.xml file in Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1:

You have not mentioned how many clients you are having? Replacing sylink manually is not possible on more than 25 user network because its time consuming job.Better you use sylink replacer for 12.1.

What about your Firewall Component of Windows, is it Disabled? If not stop it and Disable.  Let us know the Server is Offline or not in the Client UI

The initial post indicates this is only happening for one client.
