client driven pst migration

Hello,

can someone maybe help out. I'm trying to activate the client driven PST migration. But nothing seems to happen. I've activated a mailbox for archiving and on that mailbox i've enabled the client driven methode. I received a mail in the mailbox to tell that client driven is enabled. I've started the migrator task, but nothing happens, the pst is not showing up in the console.

On the client side i've enabled maximum logging and that gave be the following result:

The weird thing that i see is that the pst import thread cannot contact server.

Could this be the cause of my problem and if so what does it mean. All tasks are running under the an account that has acces to all mailboxes and machines.

You have got a Locator, Collector and Migrator Task, do you?

I have not worked on many Client PST issues but I believe this is a push operation where the data is chunked to the EV server via IIS.

So my question would be can the user ping the alias (short and long) names of the EV server?

What do you think?

Normally, I would agree.
But he seems to only have a problem with PST Migration, and not with opening Elements and so on (which use IIS, too). So I believe it's an EV issue, not IIS.

Just to verify a point made earlier in this thread the Client Driven PST Migration only has a PST Migrator Task.

The server driven has the locator, collector and migrator tasks.

I had a couple of questions:

Do you have the policy set to mark .pst files? If so, has EV marked the .pst files? This can be checked by looking in the registry at HKCU\Software\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Client\PSTsMarked

Does the name of the person's computer show up under Personal Store Management -> Computers in the EV Console?

Where is the .pst file you are trying to import located?

Also to keep the EV log file generated by the EV Outlook client smaller, you can set the tracing to minimum and this will still allow you to see the PST Migration process steps.

Jimbo is right, check for IIS issues.

The call before the error is a attempt to query the directory to see if any PST files are already listed there.

It does this by calling the server listed in the DefaultWebAppUrl. (can be found in the client trace)

The fact that it states it cannot connect either means that it was unable to even reach the webapp server or there was an error once it did.

Check the IIS logs of the server listed was the webapp server and see if you are recieving a request from the client's IP. Should be something like.

POST /EnterpriseVault/ReadPSTFiles.aspx 80 domainname\username [IP Address]

If you don't see that, then the client never connected.

On a successful connect, you should see that with a status of 200

Verify name resolution for the alias names. I have seen environments with different DNS configs.
