** Client install on a windows 2003 server 64 bit **
Updated: 23 May 2010 | 8 comments
Hi !
I try to install the netbackup-client (5.1) on a windows server 2003 64bit system. (Its not an iltanium)
At the installprocedure at status -Add netbackup port entries a errormessage pop up.
-> title = MSI1FCD
-> message = Netbackup Setup cannot access the etc\services file. Check its permissions.
Whats on ? What can i do ?
I search on the veritas support pages, but nothing found.
Can anybody help me ?
Greets Holger
P.S.: The backupserver is a solaris system, but i think it doesnt cause problems at the client installation, or ?

Holger,
Are you installing he correct version of the Client?
If you're starting with the base 5.1 install, then you are only installing a 32-bit client.
You can also look for the 'OS Compatibility Matrix' to verify that you have the right client for your combination of hardware and OS version.
Here is a link to download the appropriate 64-bit client for Windows 2003 64-bit:

Ignore the text in red at the top initially (it will link you to MP5, but you need to download the MP4 version first, then apply MP5; you will want both files, of course).
Also, having your master on Solaris does not impact your client installs.

OK !
That i found too, but this is not helpful.
I have a UNIX-Backupserver, and the MP is for the Windows Backupserver.
I try a local installation on the client !!
Or did i misunderstood you ?

Parhaps I misunderstood you.
The title of your post indicated that you wanted to install the 64-bit client on a Windows 2003 machine.
If that is the case, then yes, you will need to run a local install on the Windows client.
I don't believe you can remote install from Unix to Windows.
The MP's for Windows are for both clients and masters, so this file will work for your client install.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the link David, I've been looking for this!
Yeah, that one was a pain to find.
And not completely clear ...
It LOOKS like an MP but it's actually the full client install ...
sheesh!
Hi David and all others !
That it was !
I read MP and think "no client to install".
But it is the client and i have install this client.
Now i have only a network problem (54), but i think i can solve that.
Thank you very much !!!

Hi !
I cant solve the 54 / 41 ( network connection timed out ) problem !!
A user based backup , from client to backupserver works fine, but from backupserver sheduled backup doesnt work.
Any ideas ??

P.S.: Backupserver is Solaris 8 on Sun Ultra 60,
and Client is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition SP 1
( not an Iltanium )
