  • 1.  Client installation package for Windows 7

    Posted Apr 30, 2010 05:20 AM

    Hi,

We have installed Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.5002.333(RU5) and client installation package is working normal on Win XP, but we got few computers with Windows 7 32bit, the problem is client installation package is not working on Windows 7, is there any other way to solve it? Is that RU6 update can solve this issue? also does RU6 support older versions of client installation packages? i mean does it support old XP clients?

     Thanks,

Ru6 will support bot xp and windows 7.Here you install liveupdate first and try to install SEP it should work
Have a look in this kb also
Windows 7 / 2008 R2- SEP Client installation rolls back.

    Hi Tulga,

Try to download supprot tool from help and support. Now run this tool and check what is ur requirement to install SEP tool..
Otherwise off windows firewall, start IIS services and restart ur system then try to install SEP Managed or unmanaged pack..

Same problem i face so itried those solution and now i am installing frequently SEP client pack on Windows 7...

To find out why it is not installing on Win 7, look for a file called SEP_INST.log on the machine.  Go to start and type in %temp% and hit ENTER.  If it's not there, check c:\windows\temp.  Open the file up, and do a search for return value 3.  Look at the 10 or 15 lines above that to see the reason for backing out.  If you can't tell paste that 10 or 15 lines above return value 3 here in this thread.

As blen said that install log would be very helpful. My guess is that it is one of the two following issues (without knowing much more):

The installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client fails and rolls back around the point of registering with LiveUpdate

Installer Information - "Symantec Endpoint Protection has detected that there are pending system changes that require a reboot." when trying to install SEP 11.0 on Windows 7

You should still post the log but other things to try as well is to disable UAC on the client if you haven't already. Also you should look at this url which is a more general troubleshooting guide.
