Client List in Registry

This issue has been solved. See solution.

NBU 7.5.0.3, Windows:

On my Master server, in the "Clients" key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config, I expected to see all 980 clients listed but I only see 9 clients.  I was trying to troubleshoot a connection problem which led me to that key.  Adding the problematic client didn't resolve my issue but I was curious as to why there are only a few clients listed in that key.  Does anyone know what that key represents?  I was just wondering.  I have a smaller environment with 16 clients and only 5 show up in the Clients registry key.  Another environment has 360 clients with 9 clients listed in the registry.  Odd.

Good morning Captain,

I have one client ending with a Status 58.  I have seen this status code many times in my NBU lifetime and this is the first time I haven't been able to resolve it.  When obvious fixes failed, I started looking at the not-so-obvious which led me to the registry.

I also thought the key would list all of the protected clients but that's not the case.  I checked all 5 of my Master servers and none of them list all of the clients under that key.

Google* tells me that the Clients key stores previously used clients from the Specify Machines and Policy type dialogue in the Restore GUI, which sounds correct enough that I will tell you that's the answer.  (Actually, I just did an Edit Client List to confirm that indeed, that regkey IS what changes when you add a client, for example.)  So that's what it represents and there's no way it will help you resolve your status 58 - classic good news/bad news scenario.  wink

*a search took me to:

How do I clear the client list in the NetBackup Windows client?

 http://www.backupcentral.com/wiki/index.php/How_do_I_clear_the_client_list_in_the_NetBackup_Windows_client%3F

While I'm sure this is documented somewhere, I couldn't find it quicker than just doing my own test.  (See, nike_new, this is what we do when we don't know the answer - we test it on our own systems)

i just verified on my servers and got  the  same result.

Rsamora,

please create a new thread for 58 EC with details, we are glad to assist on that..

Thank you all for the responses and thanks for the info CRZ.  I looked at the key again and it does make sense when I think about recent restores.

I also resolved my Status 58s.  It was a firewall issue even though the customer kept swearing the firewall wasn't on.
