  • 1.  Client Machines directly hitting internet for Symantec updates

    Hi,

     

    We have around 3000 computers installed with 12.1 managed sep client and one SEPM server. It is found that the machines are seen contacing directly to the interent for downloading updates instead of only contacing sepm server. The hit is to the url ent-shasta-rrs.symantec.com:443  and is very high that the complete bandwidth is getting chocked up. Please help how we can avoid such hits to our proxy server.

    That's for download insight not for updates

    Make the following change to the LiveUpdate policy:

    Policies > LiveUpdate > LiveUpdate Settings policy > Edit the policy

    By default, "Use the default management server (recommended)" is checked,uncheck "Use default Symantec LiveUpdate server

    Check if you have enabled look ups http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH162286

    You're using download insight have lookups enabled. This is normal behaviour for that component.

    So I too have the same issue.  I understand that if you have Download Insight lookups enabled it will do this type of behavior but what amount of bandwidth usage is normal?  My understanding was a few Kbytes.  But I find that some of these machines are upwards of 20MB.  Compound that with 5000 machines behind a 6Mbps connection and we have problems.
