  • 1.  Client Machines failing secars test

    Posted Nov 03, 2011 12:12 PM

I have a simple LAN setup.  Windows 2003 Server with 30 Windows 2000 clients.  I can install SEPM and log into it.  I can deploy the clients from SEPM.  After this point SEPM does not see (or list) the clients and the clients report that the server is OFFLINE.  When I run the secars test, http://X.X.X.X:8014/secars?hello,secars I get back "OK" from the server, but all clients bring up a window requesting the Username, Password, Domain.  I've been scouring the Symantec forum and have talked with a Symantec rep without success (the network isn't connected to the Internet, which cripples the Symantec support desk).  It seems like a firewall problem, but the 2003 Server doesn't have a firewall enabled and the 2000 machines don't have a firewall.  There must be some sort of permission problem, but I haven't been able to figure it out.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hello,

What version of SEP have you installed on these machines?

    Check this Article:

Clients show the manager as offline. When performing the secars test it asks for a username and password.

    Hope that helps!!

I think Mithun is spot on with this. You might also want to try ping client to server and server to client, try running Netstat -an to see what ports are being accessed and try hosting a test web page from IIS to see if one of the clients can access the webpage.

I agree with Solaris and Mithuns suggestion probably the document below might help you to  understand the client server communication and fix the issue
