The basic inventory in 'settings' doesn't seem helpful. I'm not sure exactly what it does/doesn't send up?
As Andy said, I went to jobs/tasks, created new task (found under discovery / inventory ) called Gather Inventory. Whenever I want to manually gather inventory on the machine I run this task (it's also part of my imaging jobs).

Most of that comes from basic inventory. name, IP address and subnet, plug-ins installed, user info, Operating system, serial number and Services running.
