This issue has been solved. See solution.

For Client Side Encryption option, It is required to have the client running the same version of NetBackup as the master server. It is also recommended to have them patched to the same level.

We are upgrading NetBackup Master from 7.0.1 to 7.5.0.4 and for interim period the Master Server, Media Servers and clients will be on different versions.

How will NetBackup react for client side encrypted backups if:

Master Server and Client have different Versions

Master Server and Media Server have different Versions

Media server and client have different versions

In my experience with this you are fine as long as the Master is at the highest level and the Media servers are at the same level as the Master or lower ... and the clients are at the same level as the Media servers or lower

Most things seem to have support back to V5 (find that hard to believe!) just NBAC has issue with earlier versions

Hope this helps
