  • 1.  Client Tasks not starting on Windows 7 machine (NS 6)

    Posted Sep 28, 2011 10:24 AM

I'm testing out Windows 7 in our NS 6 environment. Has anyone had success getting everything working for NS 6 in Win 7? I know Carbon Copy has issues but I thought most of the basic software and inventory functions were working fine. I'm attempting to send a client task software install but it won't start. I did some looking around on this site and google but couldn't seem to find anything. Anyone seen this one before?

According to that pdf Windows 7 is supported in NS 6 R13 which is installed on our server.

FYI to anyone looking at this it appears to be an issue with the task/NS servers and nothing to do with Windows 7. If I come up with anything that will be helpful NS6/Win7 wise out of this I'll be sure and share it.

Windows 7 introduces UAC and can make certain remote processes difficult if not impossible.  We've always found that task in version 6 acts more in a way of the server trying initiate the job where as software delivery can be more client initiated.  We have definitely had issues with 6.x task whenever there were outdated dns, vpn firewall or now UAC in place.  Try remotely managing or browsing the hard drive.  That will be a good start.  Symantec also has an article in the knowledgebase regarding this.
