ClientRemote.exe not working

  • 1.  ClientRemote.exe not working

Greetings - I am trying out solutions to get the SEP Client 12.1 RU5 installed on my remote workstations without using SEPM. I downloaded and copied the remote installation tools but when I run clientremote.exe it is complaining about libeya32.dll not being present. I don't recall ever seeing this error before when using clientremote.exe. I copied the three remote installation files to the program folder for Symantec Endpoint Protection on a local server in the target office.

    HELP?

Disclaimer - if client remote will not facilitate a silent upgrade on my Windows 7/8 workstations then I'm not even interested in using it. We don't expect our end users to be computer whizzes insofar as installing an application is concerened.

If clientremote.exe does not facilitate a silent upgrade experience for the end user then I'm considering trying an sccm deployment. Has anyone ever done this silently and successfully?

    Thanks!

    Lawson...

Not sure on the dll as that should be included in Windows...what happens if you search for it?

You can create a silent install package and export it then push with clientremote. I've had plenty of success with this in the past although I don't use anymore....

I get the same thing.  Try the one included with an earlier download (the one with 12.1RU4MP1a worked fine for me).

This is an issue for Symantec to fix.  Older versions should work fine for deploymen purposes.

Insofar as making it silent, this is done with the Install Settings in the package that you export, which is then used with the Push Deployement Wizard.  Meaning you'll need to create and export a package that performs a silent install, with no/prompted reboot.

Brian - when I searched for and found the dll file, I placed it into the same folder as the clientremote files. I then received an error stating something about "ordinal" and an "entry point" not being found. Funny part is, I didn't find that dll file in any folder that had anything to do with Symantec.

I used to use client remote quite a bit. Not sure what's happened over the years.

    take libeay32.dll from here

put both in a single folder and then run clientremote.exe

should run from the same folder

    <drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\bin

SMLatCST - sounds reasonable to me. I'll give it a go.

    Said another way:

    1. Copy libeay32.dll from <drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\bin (The reason I wasn't finding it is because I was searching remote servers that were only running the SEP client)

    2. Paste it into the same folder on the remote installation box as clientremote.exe, ClientRemoteRes.dll and VPREMOTE.exe

    3. Copy the installation package to the same folder at the remote installation box for easy browsing to it while running Client Remote, and viola!

The saga continues - The above solution works fine on a Windows Server 2003 box, but when I try it on Server 2008 R2, I get a new message stating that MSVCR100.dll is missing. I can't be dinkin' around with production servers and copying/registering dlls willy nilly. At least, not if I want to stay employed, which I do.

Hey, Symantec, fix this, please. I got work to do!

Yep, I merely copied it to the same folder as clientremote.exe and it worked. Thanks, Rafeeq!
