  • 1.  Clients become unmanged on own

    I am using SEP 11.04

I install SEP and use the sylink app to create managed client. It goes well for a few days or weeks but then I log in and the green dot is gone. This has happened 4 times in the past weeks on different servers and client computers. These are test systems, I am reluctant to roll out company wide until I get this resolved. If I run sylink again it is all good - is there a log I can read to find out what is going on?

When the green dot is gone can you go to Help -> Troubleshooting and check what's the status fothe server? Is it unmanaged or offline? The lack of green dot doesn't mean it's unmanaged installation, it only says that there is no connectivity with SEP Manager.

    Hi,

it is impossible that a client become unmanaged on own.
It is likely a lack of connectivity. Check what Pbogu wrote and then check the connectivity to the manager with this test:
in a browser enter the URL
    http://server_IP:8014/secars/secars.dll?hello,secars
if you get OK it means that the Manager is properly listening for the clients, otherwhise you will get a standard HTTP error code.
I guess you installed the Manager on a XP machine but XP cannot manage more than 10 connections at once so the extra clients are randomly refused...

    Regards,

you don't have to input port number (8014) if you have installed SEPM to Default website (however 8014 is default on MR4).
also if it's XP and the problem is with number of connections then there are few tricks that you can do: edit registry to tweak connection wait time or apply unofficial patch for XP TCP/IP stack. But bare in mind that if you install SEPM on XP this installation will not be supported by Symantec as it doesn't meet system requirements.
