Hello Everyone. I have a fresh installation of SEP 11.x. I pushed the new client software out to a couple of workstations (2 XP and 1 Win7). While doing that, I created a new group.

On the PCs, the software installed and they rebooted. Now, in SEP, the group I created is there, but there are no clients. On the clients machine, they have a warning status with "waiting to get updates". Can someone help me figure out how to get the 2 communicating? I am used to Antivirus 10.2 where I setup groups, and then servers and assigned the clients to specific servers. Do I need to do that with SEP?

I followed this articles to get where I am: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH96203&locale=en_US

    Thank you

    hi,

have you checked whether client is able to communicate with the SEPM?

does the green dot shows on the client side?

run the sepsupport tool results and check for errors and warnings!

In one of the client go to Client GUI--->Help and support-->Troubleshooting and see whether the server name/Ip address and group is appearing there?

I would check the firewall ports. Port: 2638 for database communication.

    Here is a list:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH102416&locale=en_US

Do you have any clients that have the green "dot" and are listed in the SEPM?

Wow, thanks for all of the responses. I was off yesterday, so I didn't check this post.

    I am using version 11.0.6005

So far, no users are showing up in the client list. I am going to go look at some of the other suggestions now.

OK, so when I go to the client and check the server, it says "offline". How do I add a server to SEPM and how do I direct clients to it?

in that case, log into SEPM console , click on client tab click on export communication settings , you get a sylink and place it on the affected machines. more information in the link

stop the smc service and then copy the sylink.cml and restart the machine.

if you see error, type the exact error message.

The SEPM is located on what version of Windows?

Is it a Server?  Do you have a firewall enabled on it?

Can you confirm from a client machine, that you have connectivity to the server?

    From a command line:

telnet [server name] 8014 (unless you changed the default web site port)

Do you also have DNS resolution for Names from the client to the server?

So far, no users are showing up in the client list.

I was going to add that if the SEPM server is Windows 2008, the Windows firewall is on by default.  Create an exception for 8014 or disable the Windows Firewall to see if the clients start checking in.  Alternately use Network Threat Protection's firewall instead. laugh

check Toubleshooting/General Information/Server and run "sylinkdrop.exe" with selecting server's sylink.xml file. You can download "sylinkdrop.exe" after searching in Symantec website.
