  • 1.  Clients not updating - Their "Scan engine" field in console is blank

    Hello,
    since a couple of months a few of my SAV CE 10.1 clients (WinXP SP2) don't get updates anymore, even if they regularly check in with the parent server.
    I tried to manually update them, copying the latest .xdb file,  but it didn't work. So far, I found nothing but to reinstall the SAV client!
    What I noticed is that in the Symantec System Center console these clients are listed with the "Scan Egnine" field blank.

    I found nothing here in the forums or in the kb.
    Any idea?

    Incomplete scan engine information causes Error 2 in parent inventory log
    Fix ID:
    1244677
    Symptom: Incomplete or corrupt scan engine information in the registry causes Error 2 in the parent inventory log. This prevents new inventory data from being inserted into the database.
    Solution: Allowed clients to be included in inventory by not logging error. Also, replaced incomplete version with 0.0.0.0 to identify client for remediation.

    When  you open the client interface..

    do u see the scan engine version? or its just blank??

    Missing Scan Engine information and failure to update definitions is most often caused by corrupted virus definitions.

    To download and apply the Intelligent Updater
    1. Go to the "Symantec Security Response Virus Definitions Download Page." at:
      http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html
    2. Select the appropriate Language and Product (Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition), and then click Download Updates.
    3. Download and run the "yyyymmdd-version-x86.exe" file.
      Note: "yyyymmdd-version" indicates the date and version of the definition file.

    This is a different process than using the xdb file which you have used already, as the intelligent updater actually touches the old definitions, instead of just trying to update with new ones.

    The final solution shown there seems to work, even just performing steps 1 and 2 - then pushing an update from the server.

    I had tried the Intelligent Updater .exe file, also, besides the .xdb copy, didn't work either.
