Clients offline--no green dot--was working just fine.
I recently installed SEP small buisness 12.0 trial edition and deployed to 1 client for a test run. Everything went smooth, ran well and client showed online. I then pushed SEP to 5 more clients. Again everything went well all clients showed online. Two days later I pushed SEP to 10 more clients. I am now offline with all clients except manager console. Not sure if this happened right after the push as I left after I initiated the install. Came in the next morning and all offline except manager. I have network conectivitey and internet. Can ping all my machines. 90 percent of my machines have exact configuration. While up and running this product seemed to function properly. This is supposed to be a small buisness version, for companies that don't have a dedicated IT staff or have an employee that performs IT in addition to his primary roll at the company. I'm hesitent to purchase a liscense for my company just to get tech support and find out i'll need to perform hours of IT maint, repair, etc....I'm lookin for someone that can point me in the right direction as I have no Symantec phone support due to the fact that I'm using a trial version.
See if you can call Symantec anyway
Try calling Symantec anyway and see if they will help you. Since they will want you as a customer, they may try to help you. In fact, try calling Symantec Sales first and explain your situation...they may give you a free support call to try to win your business.
For this very reason (no support), in general it is not a good idea to install trial software into a production environment. I know too well how difficult this can be in a small business environment (all my customers are between 8 and 75 users), but you have to try to evaluate software in some sort of lab environment before buying it and then rolling it out in a production environment. I evaluated SEPSBEv12 on my home PC using 3 virtual clients on Virtual Server 2005. The eval went well but died after the trial period ended so I uninstalled it off the virtual machines.

Hi Kurt - couple of things I would recommend you try.
- Have you enabled the firewall on the server (or on the network) which is blocking port 8016? If client communciation is blocked with the server then the clients might come up as offline.
- For troubleshooting, you can go to the client machine, click Help and locate the link Support Tool. This is a Support tool you can install on the system which will attempt to diagnose the problem and make a few recommendations on the issue.
- Go to the client --> Under help there is a troubleshooting section with a button to test the connection with the server. Try that and see what happens.
- On one of your test systems, try uninstalling, reinstalling cliient but do that after you have attempted the other things mentioned above.
If you can report back on the above, we can try and diagnose the issue. I am convinced this is an environmental issue and support can easily resolve the issue for you if thats a route you want to take.
Nimesh.
Can you run the Symantec
Can you run the Symantec support tool and post the results here if possible. The tool can be found here - http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....

Thanks for all the help...sorry it took so long to get back. I read the first post and decided to try to open the port as stated above, but after reading the documentation found that server/client comms is on port 8014. Opened port 8014 on server and my clients started coming on-line one by one. What was throwing me was that i could push an install and ping the client but no comms with the management console/server. Thanks again for all the posts, all very helpfull. I am now in contact with a reseller from Softmart for pricing on a 25plus liscense.
