Clients stop communicating over SSL

I'm working on an 3 year old install of 7.1 in a disconnected envirnoment.

The problem I'm having is random clients stop to communicate with the SMP.

Last night was patching. The updates were applied to the machine but the client was still showing vulernable according to the compliance report.

The errors in the clients log files are handshake errors, malformed http responses similiar to when the client doesn't have the root CA installed.

Here is the kicker, the certificate is the the correct store.  Here is what I did.

export the SMP self-signed cert from the store.

    delete the certificate

    re-import the certificate.

Note:  The certificate is the one that the is created when the SMP was installed.

Now the client is able to communite with the SMP and post compliance data.

Has anyone seen this and know's why it's happenign or can provide insight?
