  • 1.  Clients were not displaying in symantec system center

    In the organistation recently we have started using symantec antivirus version 10.0.1.1000 and OS as windows 2003 Andvanced server (Standard Edition 32-Bit)

    We have configured symantec server group successfully by using symantec installation guide.

    By using the Symantec System Center installed client software in 5 client machines which is also having the OS as windows 2003 Andvanced server (Standard Edition 32-Bit) and for 1 client machine is having the OS as windows XP.

    while installing client software the Status of Remote Client Installation(s) panel, when the remote installation is finished, clicked on Done.Restarted the client computers.


    As in the installation guide document after a few minutes, in the Symantec System Center console, on the main
    menu bar, clicked on Actions > Refresh.

    The client computer were not appearing in the right pane of Symantec System Center console and i have not found any kind of symantec product installed in the client machine.


    kindly let me know where i went wrong. what could be the reasons for not displaying the clients in Symantec System Center console.

    Are your machines able to ping back to the server? are you using IP or FQDN? Are you seeing your server name on the AV clients? Whats your communication window between client and server? These are some noteworthy things that you can check.
    Above all you should move to ver 11 or atleast to 10.1.8.8000

    try to run discovery service or drop the root certificate and grc.dat on the clients.

    Yes, I am able to ping back to the server.

    We are using IP.

    Server Name i am able to see on Symantec System Center console.

    Whats your communication window between client and server? I didnt get this query... could you put this in little bit briefly

    You need to paste GRc.dat in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5.
    Then replcae the root certificate  Symantec Antivirus\PKI\Root
    and restart SAV service.

    There is a tool that automatically does this job but you will have to call symantec to get this tool -MAKEDROP

    Turn off the Windows Firewall, copy the GRC.DAT file from the server to clients and then replace the root certificate from the Root folder under Symantec Antivirus\PKI folder. Please restart all Symantec Services from the client as well as Server.

    Try to Drop the root cerificate and GRC.Dat file through the makedroputility and run the discovery again.

    Even if doesn't works, check with communication ports.
