    Hi,

I have a problem where I've upgrade a DS 6.5 SP1 install to 6.9 SP1, preserving existing database data. But now I can't remote control clients at all, and jobs don't schedule properly either.

If I schedule a job when the client has already been connected, it does not start. If I manually reboot the client, after reboot has completed, the job runs. This applies for jobs requiring booting into Automation as well as those that run on the Windows XP client itself.

The client appears to be reporting fine, as it shows the logged on user when log in/log out, but it seems incapable of doing anything with the client. Right clicking client and doing Power Control > Restart does not work either.

The client on the Windows XP machine gets auto updated to 6.9.355 (AClient), so I would think since they're the same version, it shouldn't be an issue.

    Many Thanks,

    Jessica

    Hi Jessica,
I've seen similar behavior on a fresh install 6.9SP1, even with the 6.9.356 hotfix aclient. I haven't looped back to it yet, but I am thinking of trying the Dagent just to see if that is the culprit.

Just as a follow-up, I tested the DAgent on an XP box, and it worked, where the Aclient did not.

I haven't tried the hotfix yet. However, have also tried using DAgent, and that exhibited the exact same behaviour.

It's as if after so many seconds/minutes that DS can't talk to the client, but the client can still report back status (e.g. logged on user).

A small update. It's taking between 20-25 minutes to start scheduled tasks. I decided to let it wait forever to see if it'd eventually do something.

These sorts of delays aren't really acceptable in my opinion, and I'm a little clueless as to figure out what the problem is.

Still can't remote control or use the power options to manually reboot PC, etc.

    Thanks,

    Jessica

Jessica, we have had nothing but problems using the dagent over here, especially with them not staying connected or taking an excessively long time to kick off jobs. Fortunately, we are a 100% XP and 2003 shop, so once we put the aclient back onto these machines and uninstalled the dagent, we were back on track again.

A little birdie also told me that in late February, CMS 7 is supposed to be released which will include PC Anywhere for the remote control items and is supposed to use the same licenses as the carbon copy originally included in CMS 6. You might ensure that your maintenance stays up to date so you can take advantage of the upgrade.
