Cloning of virtual tapes to physical tapes via filer

I have a Netapp filer in my environment to which the VTL and physical tape library are directly connected. Primary backup is Direct NDMP to VTL. I want to clone the virtual tapes to physical tapes and make it catalog aware

1. Is this possible using Netbackup 6.5 ? If so how ? Will the filer be involved in such a move ?
2. Is this move possible without using the filer resources ?
3. Is there any issue with reading of NDMP strems from VTL and moving to Physical tape if the filer is not involved ?

Any information on the above will help.

Have a look at the Hardware

Have a look at the Hardware Compatibility Guide to see if NetBackup NDMP Direct Copy is supported with your particular VTL and tape library.

The other option is to do duplications via NetBackup with Vault or Lifecycle Policies.

Also have a look at this NDMP Best Practice White Paper:

See p.11: Duplicating NDMP backup images
